New Poll: In a Head-to-Head Matchup Republican Candidate Austin Petersen Beats McCaskill, Hawley
GOP Candidate Austin Petersen Offers Best Chance Against McCaskill for Missouri U.S. Senate Seat
Kansas City, Missouri (May 22, 2018) — The Austin Petersen for US Senate Campaign today released new poll results from the nonpartisan research firm Gravis Marketing that showed Petersen performing nine points ahead of establishment favorite Josh Hawley in head-to-head matchups against incumbent Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill.
“Missourians want a leader who will stay true to his commitments and promises," said Petersen. "We know for a fact that Claire McCaskill is not that leader -- and Josh Hawley isn't either. Both have shown themselves to be ladder-climbing career politicians who prioritize professional gain over honest representation of the electorate. After nearly a year of hearing Missourians express their frustration with the insider politics in Jefferson City and Washington on the campaign trail, I can't say I'm surprised by these results.”
While respondents preferred both GOP candidates to McCaskill, they preferred Petersen far more strongly. In response to the first poll question, 56 percent of participants favored Petersen, while only 40 percent favored McCaskill. In response to the second question, 50 percent of participants favored Hawley and 43 percent favored McCaskill. When responses were broken down by demographic groups, the same trend held true: Petersen received 14 percent more than Hawley did against McCaskill among women, 22 percent more among Republicans and 42 percent more among young people.
The poll, conducted on May 16, 2018, surveyed 822 likely Missouri voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percent. The poll was conducted using interactive voice-response technology and included specific questions to gauge voter confidence in each of the two GOP candidates against McCaskill.
“In every metric measured, Petersen beat Hawley in a landslide, proving that he is the candidate best suited to take on McCaskill and deliver a win for Republicans in November,” stated Heather Coil, Communications Director. “Petersen is the only candidate that can unite Republicans, Libertarians, Independents, and even Democrats with his strong liberty platform. That is what it is going to take to beat McCaskill, and our team couldn’t be more ready.”
